Things I've learned about the south
1. Not everybody in the south has a southern accent.
This could be because I'm at college, but I'm not hearing as many southern accents then I thought I would, though I have caught myself saying y'all more then a few times... <_<
2. Southerners love College Football as much as the Bible Belt loves Jesus.
Everybody talks about football here. Everybody. There were kids around the ages of 7-8 at my church talking about football. My math teacher talks about college ball with us before he starts the lesson. It's Everywhere. Everywhere.
3. “I'm not even going to lie...”
I wasn't familiar with that phrase back in California. It's possible it's just my circle of friends didn't use it, but everybody here uses that phrase. Everybody.
4. “Macking”
Not even sure what it means, but from my observations it has something to do with making a move on a girl that is attractive/you think is attractive. Or something to that effect.
5. There are/were Obama supporters in Cleveland (Tennesse)
I was surprised at how many Obama/Biden bumper stickers and lawn signs I saw.
6. Carl's Jr. Is called Hardees here.
Seriously. I'm not lying. I think it's an elaborate ruse to try to make me go crazy or something.
7. In 'n Out Burgers is still the best, better then Krystals or Sonic
No contest. In 'n Out is the best fast food burger chain. Ever.
8. Even though In 'n Out Burgers are the best, you can't beat Krystal's .69 cent hamburger.
At least I think it's .69.... it's 60 something I know that.
9. I think this is the first time I heard classic rock played while people were working on a house by the school.
Seriously, they were listening to classic rock. It was awesome. Awesome.
10. Old Greg.
Nuff said.
11. Highway vs. Interstate
Southerners call the freeway the interstate. Which makes sense, considering that they're a lot smaller then California.
12. Soda is called Pop or Coke here.
It really depends on the person, but Pop and Coke (Coke meaning general soda, not the actual drink) are used a lot more frequently in conjunction with soda.
